05-07 Trailer Brake Controller

I bought this TBC a while back with hopes of getting it to work in my 2004. After buying it I learned that it wouldn't work pre-2005 because it's integrated into the PCM etc....

I dont even know if it works. I bought it at a salvage yard from rollover truck. The truck appeared to be completely functional other than the rollover.

If I can find a volunteer with a 2005-2007 SD can I unplug theirs and plug this one in to test it? Any risk of damaging their truck?

I just hate seeing it sitting on my shop shelf collecting dust if someone can get some use out of it and maybe I can recoup some of what $$$ I have into it.

Any insight is appreciated.

I would, but dont know if it works, or what it's really worth. PM me and we can discuss it if you're still interested.

Need help please.

I've got a local guy interested in this thing. He has a 2005-07 to plug it in to test it.

If his truck didn't come with a factory TBC installed, will the harness be tucked in behind the dash? Plug and play?

Does anyone know if it'll just work, or will he have to have the PCM flashed first before it'll even light up?

Any idea if there is a particular fuse to make sure is installed to power it?

Any idea what it's worth if it does indeed work?

Thanks for any help guys.

So, I put one in my truck, the truck did not come one with a tbc. Behind the little cubby where it goes there was plugs that plugged directly into my tbc. I have not had my pcm flashed nor have I replaced my master cylinder. I hooked my trailer up and it read that it was putting out gain as I hit the brakes. I hope that helps.

I've had the opposite experience on a couple of 2015 trucks. I plugged it in and it did NOT work. I had to get the PCM reflashed (or at least turn on that option), but did not need to replace the master cylinder.

BTW, brand new ones can be found for a little over 100 bucks, plus shipping.

Yes, that helps a lot.

It tells me the plugs are there, they are powered, and the system will at least recognize it when we plug it in. That will tell me if the unit I have works or if it's dead.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the tbc cost you? New? Used? Ebay? Craigslist? Etc??

You can PM me if you don't want to post it here.

Thanks for your help and again I'm sorry I forgot to email you when you first replied.

I wonder if 05-07 are different from the 15s.

Where are you seeing new ones for that low? I looked it up on White Bear Lake Ford parts and got a new(er) part number HERE for $273.34

I guess I should clarify, my truck is an '06. I believe the controller I put in also came from an '06

Is this the right one on ebay? It does have a slightly different part number.

No, that's for 11up trucks. The 05-07 one I have is in the pics in the OP. It has a digital display for the gain/output.
