Matt, from my work I am 17 minutes from Alta, and about 40 minutes to Alta from the house. I haven't been here but a month, so I haven't had a lot of time to get a map together of good places. Any good spots you know of - anywhere from Provo to Ogden?
I am doing the hotel thing right now until the house is finished, and the wife is still in GA until the house is done, so I need some weekend trips to keep me busy...
I haven't actually been up the hiking trails in Provo. Just as far as the Jeep (******) would take us. I would love to go though. I find the times when you are by yourself and you don't really know where you are going are the best, whether or not you have a pack.
Packing is my life, I wouldn't mind being crazy and anti-government if I goit to live up there. T minus 12 hours.
Well I am back, and if you read my first post I am early. I had a great time catching so many fish, +200 in 2 days, all cutthroats and rainbows, except for one little brookie. I had to come back because a black bear had wandered into my camp and devoured all of my food, shredded my tent and my new pack. He was still quite involved when I came back and I shot over his head with my trusty .44 mag, he high tailed it out of there and I decided I would sleep under the stars that night, no bad weather had been forecasted for the whole week. So of course it rained and I spent the night shivering under my poncho, extreme fire danger so no open fires. That morning I discovered that he had left me 6 blueberry nutrigrain bars so I got to have breakfast. I tied what was left of my stuff to my mangled frame, did I mention that this was a black bear, the kind that usually are in for a fast meal and not destroying your stuff? Then I headed out of the canyon and on my way down I met three Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks game wardens who were headed up there to shoot the bear, and a US Forest Service Forest Manager, who threatened to ticket me, that is by the way the last time I show respect to a USFS ranger or whatever. She obviously didn't care that I had just lost over $700 in equipment and food. I am so disgusted with the way that went about. She said I was parked (camped) too close to the lake, this place is a canyon, there is the lake and then it is straight up all around it, I had waded out to a island to stay. Too bad I didn't get her name. Other than that it was a great trip.
Hey, what an outing eh?? Reminds so much of my last San 'G' trip.
My buddies back pack fell prey to a bear, tore it up. The bear was a long time neusence, according to the 'ranger', the same one who told us that she was sure the bears know the rules..Thats just dumb!! Dangerously dumb. And the thing is, they want to protect that bear even though it had been harassing campers at a populated campground that is situated at the 'Poop out Hill' trail head. I'm just glad I didn't have to put the 'slug' on the bear, or I'd be in jail..Better than geing maulled.
Bad weather trips make the best memories to reflect back on in years ahead. But it takes a few years for them to turn good. I remember those rough trips the best.
yeah me too. I just reread my post, she did ticket me. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that part, maybe the Game warden said something. I don't know.
