1979 F250 Rust Woes
Het guys.
I have this thread that I started a few days ago about my 1979 F-250:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...9-f-250-a.html
Kindly check it out before or after looking at the pictures below as I am to lazy to transfer all of that info over here.
I went to where my truck is at to take some more pictures earlier today. I honestly don't remember there being this much rust bleh.
This coming payday I am getting a new filler neck tube for my gas tank and maybe a new tank if needed. Then having my mechanic check it out since the truck has been sitting 9 months or thereabouts.
Shouldn't take to much it was running fine and the only issue was the leaky fuel neck.
Then I'll need to address the rust. Maybe some kind of spray to soak in and eat up the rust while preventing new rust from forming until I can start taking pieces off? I was thinking about scrapping the bed or selling it and putting on a flatbed. While the bed was off I can remove that rust from the back section at least and coat everything.
Unless of course you guys see some other things to address first in my pictures....
Oh and I am rushing this since I need to take a nap before my night job so things might be a bit jumbled. I took pictures of the interior and underneath as well as a pic of the spare transfer case that came with the truck.

I think you might want to start a new thread about this one! If this was 1998 you woulda crashed aol nationwide with all those pics!
I don't even know where to start on what I saw but it's fixable. I guess some of the highlights were:
Floors need patched
Don't like the steering arm spacer
Front pinion seal is bad or vent is clogged
Needs lots of wire wheeling and rust knocked off with a hammer see where you're at.

By the gazillion pics I get the impression that you've been overwhelmed by it all.
Step back and draft a plan.. and prioritize. Get it running, idling stopping, and turning. Fix the leaks. Make it roadworthy.
Then knock out the floorpans and cab mounts.... go from there.

I just took those pics to be thorough. Admittedly it's a big challenge but I'm not overwhelmed ...yet lol.
My biggest stumbling block is I live in an apartment with no access to a garage so initially I will focus on Any leaks, fluid changes and roadworthiness . Up and running before the winter then I need to figure out somewhere to work.
Like I said above my main problem is nowhere to work but I will eventually get around to it.
Once it's up and purring I hope to attack the rust issue. If I can ever find space I will probably just yank the bed and scrap or sell it and then wire-wheel the frame etc. maybe a flatbed or wait for donor bed.

I remember those days too right after I left home. Apartment, no access to outside electric, etc. There was the mini-storage route but most inside spaces either weren't big enough or lacked electric. Fortunately I had befriended a small salvage yard owner that I had done business with and he later let me use a corner of his yard to work on my project. Back then (late 1970s, early 1980s) virtually everything I bought was licensed and running and seldom was over $800, usually less, plus never any rust issues in Arizona.

Yeah once I get some space all will be good. There's no rush on this project really thank God. Just want her roadworthy by snowfall. So all leaks fixed any dry rot replaced etc.
Is there anything that can be sprayed over existing rust to prevent its getting worse before I can address the issue once space to work is no longer a concern?

Im at work atm but I will check this out when I get home. Would this be something you can slop on over the rust to prevent its spreading or do you need to remove the rust first. Would love something I can slop on now and dal with later.... then POR-15 everything after all rust is removed...
Thx BTW

Nahh I have all the time in the world
What I don't have is anywhere to work on the truck. My buddy had a big driveway and shed area but recently moved to an apartment like me now I'm SOL.
Gonna start looking into if its possible to rent a spot. All my friends and family are in North Jersey and I'm stranded in central / lower Jersey. Maple Shade, close to Cherry Hill.
