Electric fuel conversion in a 2000

So I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the 1994.5-97 section. The reason being I have a 2000 f250 with a 97 7.3. It currently has a mechanical fuel pump but they keep crapping out. We dont have the money to do a $600 diy conversion so were looking for a cheap solution.

So the 2000 has all the fuel lines and plugs to put a electric fuel pump in, but if I just threw a electric pump on then it would feed to the mechanical fuel pump which I'm guessing is a no no? Or possible?

If I put the electric fuel pump would I just have to remove the mechanical fuel pump and run lines from the pump to the bowl?

If the fuel bowl can't hold the pressure of an electric fuel pump then would I be able to swap the fuel bowl only and be good to go or is that impossible?

Let me know what you think were trying to do this as cheaply as possible. Thanks.

2000 f250 auto 4x4, 97' 7.3 motor.

Fuel bowl will hold. You can take the old pump out. Riffraff has the delete plug for the hole. Only issue I could see would be your pcm. If its the 97 then it probably wont have the programming to run the relays correctly to fire the pump. If its your 2000 pcm then your good to go. Plug and play. Hopefully you kept the hard fuel lines from the 2000 system to get up to the fuel bowl. They should be bent to match up with the hook ups on the side of the fuel bowl.

How did the DIY get to be $600? If you've got a 97 block in a 2000 truck, you need a block off plate for when you remove the fuel pump and some (bio) diesel rated fuel injection hose.

The diy's I read would replace everything and delete the fuel bowl and they would install filters and a $150 regulator. I wanted to keep the fuel bowl simply because I've never had a problem with my 99.5, the fuel heater even works still.

Leave the fuel bowl in place, block off the hole when you remove the mechanical pump, and place an electric pump inline between the tanks and the bowl. The same regulator on the side of the bowl will work just fine with e-fuel.
