I don't believe your truck has a computer, but it might. If it does then leaving the belt off could make the computer mad and it could put ignition timing into limp-home mode. But, if it doesn't have a computer then leaving the belt off will have no consequences.
The easy way to tell is by looking at the distributor. If there is a vacuum advance unit on it then there is no computer. A vacuum advance unit is usually a shiny aluminum-looking part with a vacuum hose going into the middle of it.
Another way to tell is by looking at the ignition module screwed to the driver's side fender. If the plastic grommet where the wires come out of it is blue then there is no computer.
My ignition module does have the blue grommet where the wires come out. I replaced the module about three years ago.
I drive this truck about 500 miles per year. I think I am going to take the temporary belt off the air pump and drive around town a little and see how things go. I am almost sure nothing else runs from this little belt.
Thank-you all very much for all the help. This is the very best forum for getting help without someone trying to make one feel stupid.
Let us know how it goes. But, I don't think you'll have a problem at all. Given the blue grommeted DS-II module you don't have a computer and there's nothing to sense that the AIR pump isn't working and get its knickers in a twist.
As for feeling stupid, we each do that frequently to ourselves so we don't feel the need to do it to anyone else.

Your memory is excellent! I soooooo remember Dad saying that, and grinning. Like "Do you get it? Or, is it over your head?" That and, when he had been ignored, saying "If there's any thing I hate it is ignorance!"
There is no better way to feel stupid on a daily basis than to work in IT....
Amen, brother! But, making bold statements about how an old Ford pickup was originally configured comes in a close second. Whether that's done from memory, the catalog, or experience, you are setting yourself up for being proven wrong.

Following up on my belt issue. I have been driving around for about three months now, without the belt, and can't tell any difference. No issues at all.
