Question 7.3l smokes a little at idle only?

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing my 7.3L non turbo to smoke at idle. It is not using oil and only does it when you are idling at a stop. As soon as you step on the pedel it clears up. It seems to run fine at all speeds and shows no signs of any kind of smoke once you step on the pedel. Runs smooth and no miss. I know very little about diesel at this point as this is my first. I'm hoping to learn as I go. You can contact me off list if you want.

Maybe you have a weak fuel pump?

It may well be just nothing to worry about. 7.3s usually don't smoke. But when the injectors get a little worn, when the cylinders are a little tired, sometimes they just do. Smell it to make sure it isn't coolant.

I just replaced my injectors with over 300,000 miles on them and not a bit of difference. Still slightly smokes in all the same places it did before. If it isn't smoking then it's not running.

new developement.... A friend told me to floor it in 1st and see what happens. I thought this might be a stupid Idea..Boom. but tried it anyway. Well it only ran up to 3g and started to break up. Also there was a lot of white smoke. It is not coolant it is deisel. I'm starting to suspect the injector pump ? Also tried to get a replcement at one of my local auto parts store's and they told me they don't list it.... Great. Any idea's ?

I would have my pump and injectors checked before I just went and bought a new one. When was the last time you had it cleaned and calibrated?

Add some Stanadyne performance formula to your fuel for two or 3 tanks and it should clear up your problem once you have done that run some lubrication additive in your fuel.

If I crank my truck up to 3000 in first I get a real good belch of bluish/whitish smoke soon as I let up on the go pedal to make shift. Do that in second it does the same thing by the time you get to third its not so bad 4 and 5th its a slight haze.

When shes cold she smokes real good if I can shift quickly I can leave a stream of blue

If I add the Kleenflo fuel lube the smoke cuts back considerably even at start up so it does work the engine seems to run better it might be my imagination
