F-350 Diesel Swap Question

I have a 1988 f-350 with a 7.3l diesel. I won this truck at a county auction and it was previously registered as an ambulance. It runs great and only has 80,000 miles but due to it being an ambulance, insurance will be $2,600 a year. I'm interested in what trucks this motor would simply bolt into using only parts from the f-350 diesel and the new truck. Below are a few quick questions.

What years would i be looking into buying? 87-93???

Will the new truck have to be a diesel or are all the mounting points on the frame for the v6, v8, and deisel trucks the same??

Are f350, f250, and f150 frames the same (Mounting points)

All help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also posted this in the light truck catigory to see if anyone knows about the swap into smaller frames.

F-350 Diesel Swap Question

I do not think the F-150 frame is as stout as the 3/4 or 1 tons. I know the front spings will not hold the weight of the diesel. You will need the fuel tanks from the diesel truck. Something about the galvinizing or something in the gasoline tanks clogging the fuel system on a diesel. you will need to use the tranny out of the diesel also. you should have everything in the ambulance to do it. I just put a 98 powerstroke in my 90 F-350 (it came out of an ambulance).
Good luck,
Craig

F-350 Diesel Swap Question

Thanks for the input

So any f250 or f350, no matter what type engine or engine size, should work?

F-350 Diesel Swap Question

Fire,
I'm not sure if a 5.8L (351 Windsor)Small block chassis will have strong enough front springs. If it has the 7.5L (460 cid) big block I think it should.
Craig
PS If you try it keep us posted on how it goes.

F-350 Diesel Swap Question

Re-regester your truck as a camper (explane / was a old ambulance) toss a bed in back (removable) & whatever is nedded.
This will allow you to use automotive plates (and inurance rates) if your local DMV will not allow this go to another one.
"your not a AMBULANCE now!"

F-350 Diesel Swap Question

Thanks conrad, I'll have to try that first. It sure would save me the trouble of swapping everything over.
