I'm getting about 5.5 around town and don't ever hit the highway. I usually drive about 35-45 and very few stop lights if I even hit them. Seems really low, but then again what do I know... Should I save up for a tuner or is that not going to do enough economy wise to ever pay for itself?
Have nothing better to do and noticed a huge difference when I did the throttle body on the 5.4 so heck yeah!!! Should have thought about that myself, it's just gone down so fast I wasn't sure wth was up. I'll get on it in the morning
The V10 isn't a economy engine but 5.5mpg isn't what I would consider normal and I very much doubt a tuner would change it much. Cleaning the MAF sensor is a good place to start and it wouldn't hurt to run a tank worth of fuel injector cleaner (use enough for your larger tank) to make sure the injectors are misting fuel in and not just squirting fuel.
Both Dad's 00 and my 06 Super Duty V10's will average a whopping 13+mpg at 65mph hyw but our normal farm short trips on gravel roads (mostly 1 mile trips loaded and unloaded or towing wagons and such) we both average around 7-9mpg. Dad's old 91 Chevy 2500 and my old 94 f150 (that put Dad's supposedly bigger Chevy truck to shame in every way possible) both got about the same MPG's doing the same work, the V10's Play with the same loads and trips we do versus our old trucks.
When I first got it I could have sworn I was in the double digits and I just want to get back to that. I'll toss some injector cleaner in there and change the fuel filter tomorrow.

The V-10 X (at least my 3 ) sucks fuel like mad under similar conditions. 5-6 MPG putting around the property. NO STOP LIGHTS, just tooling around, 5-35 MPH, some idling BUT not a lot. It will pick up to there normal 9-10 MPG in mixed use
Did the 5.4 do much better ?? Was it 4x4 ??
When I was doing my 3 mile round trip commute to work I was getting 7mpg in the winter. With your driving 5.5 seems very low! In town driving mileage will actually increase with 4.30's because the engine doesn't work as hard to get the X moving. You should be seeing closer to 9 with your driving. Unless you are driving it like you stole it! Hen he mileage will be way less!

Should be closer to 10mpg unless you floor it at every stop. Even then.. 5 seems quite low.
I suggest to hook up an obd2 scanner. If you have android get torque pro.
Check the O2 long term fuel trims. Ideally close to 0 but anything over 7% means there is something wrong.
Is this hand calculated from a full tank or lie-o-meter or ? Do you idle it a lot? You recently had headers installed, any exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors?

Not to change the subject (to much) 2 of the Xs have lie-o-meters & EVERY reading has never been more than a few points off either way from the hand calculated. I have to say I'm pretty impressed ( oh yea BOTH are 2000s)
That's funny... my Lie-o-meter is exactly that. I checked it when I first got the truck (after resetting it) and it was about 3 mpg off. I've pretty much ignored it since. It's amusing to watch it get really confused when I fill up with shutting the truck off though.

Mine is very close also, especially when towing. I think extended idle time seems to skew it. If I reset it while driving, for example after filling up and merging onto the Hwy, it's pretty darn close. If I reset and hit stop and go traffic, it will be off.
