I have a 97 ford ranger 2.3 liter stock and I went to get an aliment with my new tires and was told they could not adjust the camber without further work done. I guess my camber is not adjustable anymore and I was wondering what that could mean. I'm thinking I need new bushings or maybe new shocks? And tios would help thanks
What "further work" needs to be done? Did they say specifically what it needs? If any front end component is worn out, such as ball joints, they won't be able to align it. You would need to replace any worn out parts and then get it aligned.
There are bushings that adjust the camber. Some are adjustable. It's possible that yours are not adjustable, so the shop may need to replace your bushings with adjustable ones, or a different fixed bushings that will correct your camber. But without knowing what specific further work needs to be done, we can't help you any further.
And shocks do not have any effect on alignment, even if they're bad.
Thanks for the reply no the dealership that I took the truck to did not give me any further details on what needed to be done it sounded like he did not know himself I guess I replace all the bushings on the front end and then take it back in for an aliment. Thanks again
cant comment about your specific year, but on my 99 when i rebuilt the front end I had to replace the camber wedges with camber eccentric bolts for adjustment. Im guessing at the factory they just put in a "standard" factory setting wedge that locks it into that factory setting.
full thread here, down toward the end is pics of the factory camber wedges and the replacement adjustable ones.
