Gear indicator on LCD

Has anyone else noticed that if you press the + on the gear shift when running in normal drive mode, it toggles a 1-6 vertical gear indicator on the LCD? I found this in the manual and was surprised it can do this. With the gearshift lever in drive (D), press the – button to active PRS. The available and selected gears are indicated on the instrument cluster.
All available gears will display with the current gear indicated. Press the – button again to lock out gears beginning with the highest gear. Example: press the – button twice to lock out 6th and 5th gears. Only the available gears will display and the transmission will automatically shift between the available gears. Press the + button to unlock gears to allow the transmission to shift to higher gears. The transmission will shift automatically within the gear range you select.

Between locking out gears and using manual mode, it's one of the great features of these trucks. I use manual mode a lot but even in auto mode, I still gear down by locking out gears and add them back as I speed back up, such as leaving a traffic light.
That +/- toggle has been used a lot on my truck.

I read through it when I got the truck. But it seems that I'm always finding something new and trying to figure how how to use it. I have only towed on one trip so far. It pulled so effortless I don't know if I will ever do anything but put in in drive and go.

That was kinda big news back in September 2010 when we all got th 400/800 flash on our trucks and it added the gear display. But once everybody got their flash done, it become old news.

I love it and use it when going down hill. Lock out 6th or 5th gear even so it keeps the speed down.

Don't feel bad. After the PCM reflash on my 2013 F-350 the dealership couldn't figure out where the numbers went. I left figuring the reflash of the PCM did away with the indicators. Found the answer myself and let the dealership know.
