429 timing chain cover....

429 timing chain cover....
im buying a new project but i cant hear it run. it has a 429 in it but the owner says he tore the front end down to replace the gaskets in the timing chain cover. he said it was leaking enough that his wife was getting oil spots on her car as she followed him to his brothers house. is there really that much oil pressure there to cause a timing chain cover to leak that much? or the guy blowing smoke up my #$%#. btw the whole under carrage is coated from the engine back.
