Well I was looking at YouTube videos and stumbled upon the Ecoboost Torture Test once again. I am not ashamed to say that these videos also played a part in my decision to pull the trigger on the ecoboost. I remember wondering if I was making a mistake buying the V6 motor and hoped it would live up to all the hype these videos claimed, more importantly to live up to MY expectations as I drove away in it.
I am at roughly 42,000 miles on my EGOboost and I can honestly say I am really glad I made the decision to buy my truck with this motor in it. I gained a newfound respect for this motor after my last thread towing to Arizona and how this little motor towed and surprised me even in some of the hottest temps I have towed in yet (highest was 109 degrees in Needles, Ca.) and up some steep grades towing past other towing vehicles without issue.
I have never felt, not once, that I have ever been lacking in power nor have I wished I had made a different decision on motor choice.
I further will test this motor eventually with a 1/2 ton towable 5th wheel which for me will be the REAL test on it's durability and performance towing. That day will come and I will revisit my thoughts on this engine in this thread.
Until then enjoy the Complete Torture Test series in HD for those of you that have the ecoboost...and those of you that are on the fence about it. You will not be disappointed in this motor!
By the way some of my favorite parts were when the state trooper is sitting on the side of the road and the truck goes flying past him...as well as the track guys talking about the truck testing and the one guy has to pipe in with "Full Boost!"
I too bought this truck with towing in mind, I went through all of the torture videos and test drove two different ecoboost trucks before ordering this truck, I am NOT disappointed! Do you have it narrowed down to which fifth wheel and how heavy, most that I look at are heavy pin wise?

Well...the one I like the most so far is a Rockwood 8289WS...the layout is great and the weights are all good with the exception of the pin weight. I maybe be cutting it close if not a tad over on pin weight. I can try to leverage some weight in the back of the 5th wheel to transfer some of the pin weight. The fresh water tank is behind the axels of the trailer which would help distribute some weight to the back of the 5th wheel.
There are quite a few that would be well within my ratings...however we really did not like the layout of them. Things like the TV is in weird spots and you would be looking over counters to see it...little things like that.
Wildcat make some that are light enough and so does Rockwood. It all depends on your needs for space.
I like the rockwood/flagstaff trailers, they seem to offer the most bang for your buck, the trailer we keep looking at is the 8280 ws, a little lighter on the pin and a little shorter, especially like the diamond pkg on these trailers. Have looked at many because the spouse likes to look when we are on vacation.
Good to hear she is still making you smile buddy. I only know a few who said anything bad about the Egoboost, most love them. One buddy just bought a second Egoboost, he just wanted the newer body style. I'm sticking with the ol' 5.4 for now, got kids looking at college the next few years and no truck payment is key
After 4 years and 41k miles, I can safely say that I'd buy another Ecoboost in a heartbeat. The fuel mileage is decent, but the thing that really makes it for me is the torque.

I watched the Ecoboost Torture Test several times before deciding to buy my 2014 E.B. Limited. I still have reservations about so call Ecoboost Torture Test accuracy (complete truth) on engine 448AA. The video appears to be a bit exaggerated. I would have liked to see them take a completely unbiased and unpaid non-Ford employee along with them on the entire test. I'm not a total skeptic but on this one I would have to call a foul.
Rob,
Do you have or know your Ford Part Number for your 2013 F150 Platinum Max Trailer Tow Mirrors ? I am trying to track down those exact mirrors and cannot find them for my 2013 F150 Platinum. I want the same power fold/heat/extend/puddle/etc mirrors in the Tow Mirror. If you can help at all, that would be great, thanks.
I watched all those videos as well. I followed all the marketing Mumbo Jumbo on the web and even drove 10 hours to participate in a Ford driving event. The event was great, not only did they have different Ford trucks they had trucks from different manufactures, we where able to tow trailers and talk to Ford technical people.
It was difficult to purchase a V6 turbo to tow trailers. In the end it turned out to be a good decision.
