Within a month I've done a head gasket, Intake gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, and timing cover gasket. I've still got a really good oil leak going on and can't figure it out. There's just so much oil it's hard to pin point it. Considering all the gaskets I've already replaced can anyone else think of any other places it could be leaking? There's no oil on the plugs or wires but there is oil on the lower rad hose and alternator and basically all over underneath on all the suspension stuff. Engine is a 460.
Power wash the suspension and anything else covered with oil and trouble shoot .. When you did the timing chain cover are you confident in your seal to the top of the oil pan ? and did you replace the front crank seal while you were there ?
Fuel pump gasket, distributor doughnut, oil filter mount gasket, oil filter O-ring gasket,
and front crank shaft seal ..
If you have a lot of blowby it could be blowing oil out of the valve covers or it could also be the rear main leaking. I recommend trying to clean it off the best you can and start it to find the leak.
Go to the parts store and buy a infrared light, engine oil dye and a can of brake clean. The dye makes it easy to spot where the leak is coming from even of the engine is covered in grease and dirt. I use that stuff to find leaks in customers vehicles as well as my own and most leaks are found in a few minutes.
Add the dye and run the car for a few minutes, just before the engine gets too hot to touch. Turn off the car and use the light to find the leak. Even if it is just a seep, the light will show the leak plain as day.
That's great advice Rat. It is what the Op
needs to do for sure. I have never used the
stuff because I have yet to have a reason to.
But I understand it works well.
