so i cant quite tell where its coming from, but here is a picture.
it seems to be coming from just even with the drivers side exhaust manifold towards the back.
from what i can see the top valley looks clean.
it seems to only leak while its running. and it leaks quite a lot.
its close to the bell housing so im guessing a rear main but i don't know. i hope its not!
So upon further inspection in the daylight I can tell it's coming from up higher somewhere rear of engine. So atleast I don't think it is the rear main or the bed plate anymore.
Now I'm thinking ICP sensor or turbo line/s.
Guess I'll have to disassemble to find out further.
2003, old style HPOP, and STC. I've heard that when the STC blows, it can crack the rear cover plate of the motor.
Have you had STC problems before?
no prior STC problems. it has been updated. however the HPOP is original.
i wanted to replace it while i was in there but could not come up with the extra $$$ at the time.
also if the rear cover was cracked would it not be gushing out like crazy?
its just a steady drip only while running.
The 03 and 04 motors don't suffer from the STC blowout because the set up isn't the same. Different pump and branch tube.
Check the ICP and IPR under the turbo for leakage. Further towards the front check the engine oil pressure switch and temp sender although IIRC those usually run down the passenger side of the motor.

thanks for the info,
will i be able to see back there easier just by taking the degas bottle off out?
also can i rule out the turbo drain line? it seems like it would leak on the passenger side as well if it was leaking.
Let me know what you discover Evan. Im going out at mine today to replace the shocks and stacked rear blocks(from previous owner) and ill have another look to see if I can discover anything.

If you lay under the truck, you can get your left arm(helps if you have long arms and not thick forearms like I do), the ICP will be tucked up behind the heat shield. You might see a heat covering on pigtail to the ICP.
Once I got the heat shield off I knew right away it was the ICP, the oil was dripping out of the ICP and actually blew up towards the wiring for the IPR just next to the ICP.
The 03-early 04 ICP is harder to get at but not impossible, but you don't need to remove anything topside really. If the connector is oily replace it with a pigtail, don't try to salvage it.
dieseltechron has a great youtube vid on this year engine ICP removal.
It does not take any special tools, just a 1 1/16 deep well with 1/2" drive. You will have to cut around a half inch off the socket, depending what brand I suppose.......to allow the clearance to get your ratchet hooked on and still have the depth to grab it without the sensor bottoming out inside.
Don't to like I did and cut an inch off right away. I had to go buy another socket, but was just a 7$ cheapee.
If it's the IPR then you will have to get the special socket and get from topside with FICM removed and degas pushed aside. I have my doubts it is the IPR, have yet to read about one that has blown out. ICP is very common from what I have read.

Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately the tree service I'm having cut down a huge 200 plus year old red oak showed up today. So in other words I have not looked at the truck yet.
Now from reading that, the highest place I could see the wetness of oil was way up high just behind what looked like a little heat shield.
Honestly I hope it is the ICP. But I have read that they don't leak that much. Mine is 1 to 2 large drips every second.
It was replaced about 3000 miles ago, and I'm thinking maybe it was not tightened all the way or a lemon out of the box?
Also If I need a new pig tail must it be spliced In or is it a plug on both sides?
Thanks again for all the help guys.
I will report back as soon as I get this figured out.

The pigtail has to be cut and connected to the harness. Most kits will come with butt connectors but I like to solder and heat shrink any wire connections.
If you do use the connectors, tape them up well when you're done.
Also match up the plugs and wires and swap one wire at a time.
