Fuel pump maybe??

As in a previous post, i have been having issues with my truck starting then immediately dieing if i dont keep my foot on the gas.

Ive learned how to drive with 2 feet because of it, but I'm afraid i might be doing some type of damage since it keeps dieing and I have to keep starting it.

Once i get going for about 10-15 minutes its fine but its happening every time i start the truck.

Before it starts running correctly, it only idles around 400 rpm.

I think its the fuel pump, since my mechanic put a code scanner on there and it didn't throw any codes, he thinks it might be the fuel pump.

My question is, should i go with a ford pump from the dealer or are the ones sold from discount/o'reilly/napa just as good?

Thanks in advance

Fuel pump maybe??

In the other thread I asked you if you checked fuel pressure. Same question here.

as far as my mechanic could tell everything was running fine with the scanner on it

that's why he thinks it might be the pump

I source all parts from Ford or a Motorcraft equivalent. Parts store brands have been neither long-lived nor quality replacements.

^^^^^^^^^^ This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The only items to buy from NAPA/AutoZone/O'Reilly's/Advance Auto etc., would be batteries and even then Costco has better deals.

i bought the fuel pump and iac today

I got a pretty good deal on both.

the pump is a delphi and the iac is elchin, napa's in house brand

the napa iac gasket leaves a lot to be desired so im going to grab a motorcraft one tomorrow

Got quoted $290 to have both installed.

That seem to be a fair price for both installed?

You should hang onto the fuel pump so you can return it after the replacement IAC valve fixes your problems.

Sean's link in post #2 above seemed to match your stated symptoms pretty well.

Not knowing the quality of gas used by the previous owner, it wouldn't hurt for me to change the pump also.

when replacing the iac, do i need to remove the air intake and should i be concerned about the bottom tube that run from the intake to the engine breaking or not flexing?

I dont want to take things apart and have that tube come off the engine or snap.

Yes, remove all of the stuff that's in the way. Re-read Sean's linked thread from post #2 above, he clearly shows this in his pictures.

Just take your time and it'll come off easily enough. I recall cleaning the general area first with a rag. Heck while you're in the neighborhood, clean your MAF too.
