I was browsing a bunch of posts regarding 6.2L exhausts. More specifically just doing a muffler delete. First, let me say that the muffler delete sounds pretty good. Barely noticeable at idle, sounds great from ~1200rpm - ~2700rpm then calms down through 5k. No droning in cab. For $100 at your local muffler shop its a great deal if you are just looking to beef up the sound without tossing $700 for new catback systems.
Now, my main question is whether or not what I see is an anomaly. I started out the first few hundred miles averaging about 12.9 MPG on my commute to and from work. Its about 35 miles, about 5 of it rural stoplights and the remainder is freeway averaging 60-62 MPH.
Immediately following my muffler delete I was seeing upwards of 14.5 MPG. I wanted to see if it was just in my head so I reset my economy tracker and set it for a 30 minute history so people wouldn't think I just did an instant reset. I ran my standard commute tonight and was surprised to see an average for my ENTIRE (including stop lights in town) trip at 15.8 MPG.
Below are the screenshots. I was wondering if that was due to my truck finally breaking in (its has shy of 600 miles at time of post) or if the muffler delete really gave me a couple MPG...Anyone else seen this?
I don't think so. If the factory exhaust was restrictive enough to harm efficiency at cruising RPMs it couldn't possibly flow enough to permit higher RPMs. Think about it...how can something be restrictive when you're making 60 HP going down the road and still permit the airflow to make 385 HP?
Is the stock exhaust a little restrictive at wide-open throttle? Perhaps. Certainly not at the RPMs and engine loads that you cruse at.
I've heard of more than a few with 3.73s who get in the 16s, so that's not out of the normal range. Those who opted for 4.30s haven't been doing quite as well.
Will getting an inspection sticker be a problem after deleting the muffler? I'm from Massachusetts.
I wouldn't think so because you haven't altered emissions (as long as you leave the cats alone)....Check with your local shop that does your inspection first of course..

I have the 6.2 with 3.73 and average 11.8mpg per the computer. That's mainly driving around town vs highway miles tho.

yep, 14mpg is the best I've been able to get with mine and that is keeping the speed just under 60 mph and using the cruise as much as possible. With normal driving I'm only getting in the low to mid 13's.
This is for summer driving, in the winter knock another 1.5 mpg off.
I have just done the exhasut on my 2014 F250 with the 6.2L and 3.73 gers with 295/70/18 tires. I havent had it out on the highway yet but here are a couple pics. I did a complete delete of the factory exhaust from y-pipe back. I added a 3.5 inch mid pipe to a flowmaster 50HD series muffler exiting with dual 2.5 pipes out to 4 inch chrome tips, straight out the back. The truck sounds awesome so far. I had a 2012 F150 with the 6.2 and did a single 3 inch and it didnt sound near as good as this truck!

Im in the same boat, but I have 700lb of Ranch hand bumpers on my truck.
32 mile one way commute. 5 miles with stop lights, rest rural 2 lane. I have gotten as high as 17 mpg, but normally see 16-16.5 on a daily basis. Speed at 55-60.
