Newbie to Ford 4x4
Ok, please don't laugh. Have never owned a Ford before, so how do I know if my Exursion is in auto, locked manually, or not at all. I have searched and searched and can't find a "how to for dummies". Lol! Here is a pic of the hub. What does that little hole mean? They are turned as far to the left as possible. Please dont don't be too hard on me! Thanks a bunch!

So then something isn't right with mine then...😕 Because according to that picture they are not turned far enough. My hubby can't turn them any further or I should say he is afraid to apply any more hard pressure because he's afraid they will break. He had to use channel locks to get a good grip. The one on the drivers side already is broken in the middle.

These are less than 1/3 the cost of Warn or the plastic ford's & work great.

Comparing your original picture to the one with the words that Stewart posted it looks like your hubs are fully in the AUTO position, which is FREE or UNLOCKED as long as the dash switch is in 2WD. Can you reach behind the wheel and freely turn the axle shaft where it passes through the steering knuckle? If you can turn it then they are unlocked, now turn the dash switch to 4 HIGH and drive forward 30 feet or so and try to turn the axles behind the tires again. If they now will not spin freely then your auto hubs are working properly. If not either pull them apart to clean and lube or look into ordering the replacement manual hubs mentioned above. If your hubs are really hard to turn now they will need at least a good cleaning and lube.

Just got back from our local diesel shop and had the tranny fluid changed. He did a quick once over and said everything looked good. He did check the vacuum lines to the hubs and they were broke/rotted off. In the next couple of weeks I am gonna get all that fixed, new lockouts and an oil change. So glad to know that everything is so far so good! Thanks everyone for your help and advice. If your in the southern Ohio area I recommend Armored Diesel in Washington Court House.

Yup, anything mechanical will eventually break if used enough.
Yup, I never said they wouldn't fail.
Yup, I've read many a favorable testimonial about the MM hubs.
None of that has anything to do with my post stating I've read about more MM hubs failing than I have about Warn hubs failing.
Just to be clear, I'm not knocking MM hubs. I'm just trying to give info to the OP so she can make a better informed decision.

Warn fail as well.
I have run 4 sets of MMs without ever an issue.
