I am replacing the evaporator core in my 85 f150 and seeing as the accumulator is rusty and old I am replacing that too. My question is what is the plug with the electrical connection that attaches to the top of the accumulator. It just screws off an mine is corroded so I though I would replace it as well but I do not know what it is .
Below is a pic of the accumulator, the plug is on the left hand side in the pic towards the top
Should be a high side pressure switch. this is not specific to your truck as A/C systems are not all the same, although operate on the same principle of making a high pressure liquid a low pressure gas to cause the cooling effect.
Generally they have a fail safe system. If the pressure is to great/low it will kick the compressor off so that it does not burn itself up. With that being said it makes sense to me that its a pressure switch.
Well, if the only problem is that it's dirty & corroded on the outside but it still works, you may be able to remove it and install it on the new accumulator.
Else call up the local parts stores, tell them what you need and they'll try and help you...
