Smells like crayons
My 2008 Navi smells like crayons when the car is not used (widows up) for more than a day. The smell is not affected by heat or being parked under the sun. The worst smell comes after the car sits for many days, windows up, unused. For example, when I go on a trip and park my Navi for 5 days in the airport parking structure (shaded) and when I return, the crayon smell is overpowering.
So, I shampooed the carpet. Cleaned and conditioned the leather seats. Wiped down all the surfaces. Then, as I had my head next to the rear driver seat belt and I could smell it. Stuck my nose into the hole where the seat belt retracts into and viola! Strong smell. Took out the rear panel where the sub woofer is housed and found out the black rubber/fabric sound insulation is the culprit...and its all over the car...including under the dash.
Does anyone have know of anything that can be applied to the rubber to remove the smell? I tried Simple Green, Armour All, plastic trim restorer, 409. Pretty much everything in my garage and the smell keeps coming back. I'm about to pull it all out and buy DynaMat to replace it if I can't find anything to remove the smell. Any help is appreciated.
