I have just over 6,000 miles on my 6.2L. I've towed my trailers a few times now & think it does a great job.

Yea i'm running the 87 octane economy tune for the most part and it seems to have a bit better take off. I have the 87 performance and 87 towing but i find the 87 performance takes off really fast but when on the highway it seems to keep the rpms up too high for my liking so its a bit too noisy for me. I haven't tried the 87 tow tune yet.

I have a crewcab 2012 f-350 that I bought brand new and it just turned 16,000 miles it's a great truck and hasn't given me any problems. I've owned a half dozen f-150s with different engines over the years that were all good trucks but I really love the superduty with the 6.2 it's a fantastic truck!

what gears for a 6.2 crew cab.

Hey all. Looking at a new Utility Truck for the fire co. Going gas engine this time around. Looking at a Crew cab, 8' bed (deleted) 4x4 XL 4x4 probably. We will be adding our fiberglass body on the back with rescue gear as well as occasionally tow a trailer with two Polaris Rangers on it. I have a personal truck f350 with 4:30 gears and a v10 and run 33" tires and love it. What should I order for the 6.2, 4:30's or go with 4:10's? Does this engine like to rev. like a v10? Any help would be appreciated. Also it's been a while since I looked at I new truck, any great options I should add? Thanks

I never had a v10 so I can't tell you. It does seem like the 6.2L is happier at the higher RPMs. It certainly tows at a higher RPM than my 5.4L and 3.5 EcoBoost did.

Get the 4:30's with the 6.2. They love to rev and don't make big power until over 4K.

Gear options are 4.30 or 3.73. Honestly, either would work fine. Try to order the camper package or heavy duty rear suspension. These trucks have a tendency to squat a bit more in the back than they should. What will the purpose of this truck be? Brush truck with a skid?

We have a 2013 GMC 3500 gas, regular cab, dual rear wheels, 4x4 used for brush fires. Wish it was a Ford, but chief likes his GM rigs. Depending on total weight of your body, a dual wheel setup might be better. If SRW, though, get the e-locker option.

I'm convinced all these 6.2L engines do this, some more than others. My 2012 did this all the time. It drove me nuts - dealer told me not to worry about it. That's BS, because it sounds like crap when it starts. Only for a couple of seconds, but that's enough time for people around you to think you don't have enough oil in your engine. You don't pay the kind of money these things cost and have them sound like crap at startup. Watch the oil pressure gauge - as soon as it pegs in the middle, the tick / rap stops.

The problem is the tiny lifters at the end of the rockers apparently get the oil squeezed out of them by the valve spring pressure depending on the position the cam happens to stop at when you shut off the motor.

Now, my 2015 with the same engine does this much less than my 2012 did - maybe 2x per month and always less audibly. The 2012 would do it 2x per week or more. But I noticed 2 things about my 2015 which are different than the 2012. One, the starter motor turns the engine over slower - so it seems to crank the engine over a couple more times before the engine actually starts - helping to build oil pressure. Secondly, the oil pressure gauge reads slightly higher (right of center position) than the 2012 (dead in the middle). Maybe the oil pump or something else in the oiling system was improved, or maybe its just truck to truck.

There are threads on this site about the problem - it manifests itself in the Raptors and 6.2L F-150's, too. No real solution. There are plenty of high mileage 6.2's though, so it doesn't seem to be a problem. One guy on this site has 265k miles on his Super Duty.

I wonder if a thicker oil would help - (meaning it wouldn't squeeze out of the lifters as easily).

28,000 miles on mine. I had a noisy pulley on cold days replaced and that's it.
After owning a 2006 6.0 it's taken a while to just relax and enjoy a vehicle! I pull a 10,000 lb 5th wheel and it's a pleasure.

I have both motors with the 4.30s. The 6.2 revs considerably higher than the 6.8/V10. The 6.2 pulls just as well but its like riding a 125 motorcross bike. Lots of rpm and shifting.

Thats what I found with the factory tune you'd step on it a bit get nothing step on it a bit more then zoom you're off like a 2 stroke and you feel like that douche who floors it for the sake of flooring it. Going to 5 star tune made it seem a bit more even from the start.

We got a used Chevy a few years back, Crew cab diesel, 14K miles. What a total piece of crap it has been! We replace 6 heavy duty Alternators so far in 3 years, The brakes have unsolvable issues. (4 diff shops and replaced everything, still suck) We are done with it! I get to spec out new truck, It will be a Ford. Thanks for the reply, I was on line today and specked out Crew cab, 4x4, 4:30's, F4X, XL appearance package, Heavy duty alt, Camper package.
