I got a vinyl floor from a 1993 F150 with a 4-speed trans at the JY last year and I painted it with SEM to the colour I wanted. My truck is a 1980 F100 with a Warner T-18 4-speed. Now I'm trying to fit it into the truck and it doesn't fit. I assumed the cab floors would be the same for '80-'96. The transmission tunnel area is the problem so I'm wondering if the trans cover and tunnel shape changed over the years for various 4-speeds. My options are to rework this one or buy new (very pricey with the current exchange rate). Any ideas on making it fit?
The transmission cover is a lot taller on the later trucks. If you added one of those maybe it would fit, although I don't know if the tunnel itself changed.
I'll have to check out other covers and maybe adapt one if feasible. As you can see with this picture and referring back to the picture in my original post, the opening for the shifter boot in the floor is also off so this opening also would need modification. May end up having to get a new floor. The old ones were different material composition and tend to dry out, and tear; chances of finding a good one pretty slim. Thanks for your help guys.
The finish doesn't scratch off. I think it would hold up very well. The floor was originally a blue colour and I painted it a grey three coats after the proper preparation. I have used SEM on my door and kick panels panels, dash pad (held in reserve for now) and will use it on the lower dash.
As for the tranny cover, I've brazed a piece of sheet metal into the openings on them and cut out new openings when changing transmissions. In fact, I've even used screws to hold a piece of sheet metal in place with some RTV between. But, since you don't have the carpet pad and carpet the latter might show, so the brazing might be best.
I think the way to go is get the tranny cover that matches the vinyl floor as it probably is the right shape overall; I don't think the floor pan changed (I hope). I can then make a new opening for my shifter boot and close up the leftover opening as per your suggestion Gary. I can patch in some vinyl there as well and make a new cover plate that looks good.

After seeing Wiley Joe's old thread on installing a new vinyl floor I saw what you were referring to about the tranny cover. My cover is a different shape as seen in the first picture; Wiley Joe's is in the second picture. WJ's truck is an '81 F100 while mine is an '80. Obviously different transmissions and different tranny cover plates. I'm definitely going to source a cover like WJ's and modify it; my flooring should then fit much better.

I have an '85 250 4X4 and tried to replace my vinyl floor mat this past weekend and ran into the same problem. The old floor mat had literally crumbled apart. The one I purchased came from LMC and is a TERRIBLE fit so I am looking for a new one from a different company.

Whomever you order a floor from it would seem that you should be able to specify what transmission you have in order to get the correct floor. These aftermarket floors , so far, seem to be "one size fits all" given they claim to fit 1980-1996 which, obviously, isn't so.
^^^^^ Best bet might be to get one for an automatic truck, with no shifter cut-out at all. Then you can make your own cut-out exactly where it belongs. I'll bet there were a lot of variants based on model year, engine, tranny, etc., and the aftermarketers just aren't gonna cover all those bases.

Well I got a heck of a shock today. The mat I ordered from LMC that looked like crap that I REALLY had to cut up to fit can't be returned. I contacted LMC and told them how it looked and how unhappy I was with it. They asked for my order number so I sent it to them and they refunded to me the entire cost of the vinyl floor mat with out even mentioning returning the cut up mat. I won't order another one from them but at least they gave me my money back and I can look else where for a mat that hopefully will fit.
