I was wondering is anyone had taken the mirrors off of one of our trucks and put on some smaller sportier ones. I think some nice smaller chrome ones would look good, or colour matched too. has anyone done this and have pics?
I hate the mirrors on my 1986 Ford, I ride without them for now....looks so much better and cleaner. I think I found some really good small ones that will fit......get them at *** TRUCK.They are very expensive though....but I think they will make a FORD look really cool.
I hated the little mirrors that originally came on my truck. They SUCKED! Fortunately, their mounting screw spacing is the same as the upper mount for the bubble-back breakaways, so they swapped right on. When I finally got the flag-mounts that I have now, I had to totally redo the mounting, and I think they look the best. I just wish I could find the black fronts for them instead of the chrome.
This was in the middle of the swap - flag on the passenger's door; bubble-back on the driver's.
I have been working on the same question for a while. I just got my 86 F250 back from the paint shop. I had them strip the big chrome mirrors and brackets. It turns out that the side mirrors from a similar era Ranger fit the upper mounts perfectly. Ford lists them as available for the 80-86 f-series. I got mine in black. They look so much sharper.
Just for your info, I bought a pair from a place for $39 and they are junk. I bought a second set from Just Auto Mirrors in Chicago for about $39 each and they are so much better.
I looked for black bubble-backs for years and finally gave up. Because of the way they're built, it's almost impossible to disassemble the head and have it powdercoated.
