While cleaning my battery for my '97 2.3 Ranger, I unhook the negative cable. Well the alarm starts going off in my ear. I no longer have the manual control for "on" and "off"--it long ago broke off my keychain. So i decided to cut the wire to the horn that was screaming in my ear. I guess that wasn't a good idea--- when I reattched the negative cable, i suddenly hear the lights clicking off and on. I try and start the truck, and nothing--except the cycling of the lights and the radio-But the engine's not kicking over. Now what? Is there some way "reset" everything now? I can try and solder the wires together, but the horn would just start blairing away again.
I have the same problem with my Alpine alarm
I left my good keys w/ the remote at home and had to use my spare set, set alarm off, so I just popped hood, yanked power wire to siren off.
It still drives and everything, but the lights flash sometiems when u get in it and even w/ the remove it takes a bit to go off.
If I hook the siren back up it goes off all the time.
I even disconnected the alarm box and plugged it back in, and still same problem.
So good luck man, if you figure it out, let me know also
most likely it has a starter kill relay thats been tripped when you set off the alarm. the only real way to defeat that is to get to it near the ignition harness and either bypass it or take it right out. it's just a relay in line with your starter wire and it will have at least 2 extra small wires going away from the relay too. if you connect the two big ones together you should be able to start it just fine.
I have never messed with these systems, but I thought you put the key in and turned it off and on in a sequence to reset the alarm? If it's factory, the manual should have a procedure. You would think if you have a legitimate ignition key, that this would be enough verification to the system that the proper owner was operating the car.
I deal mostly with factory alarms and try hard to avoid the aftermarkets but heres 1 thing you can try. Make sure the key is turned to the run position and then put the battery cables on the battery. Cant hurt to try this one? Sometimes it works.
When ever my truck battery needs disconnecting or changing. I have to hold the disarm button down when reconnecting the power to recode the alarm system.
You might try hooking every thing back up with battery disconected, then when you have every thing reconected and ready, hold your alarm (disarm) button down while reconecting the battery.
