I just droped a rebuilt 302HO in my 69 f-100 and have discovered
a real problem with the flex plate.
The flex plate is off of my old 302 and bolts up to my 77 small block C-6 trans.
I am nearly certan that my engine viberation is caused by the wrong flex plate. I tried using my old harmonic balancer and the viberation was reduced a small amount but not much.
So my question is: does anyone make and sell a flex plate for a 302HO that will bolt up to a C-6 trans?
get the flexplate for the ho and redrill the torque converter holes in it to fit the c6 and dont forget to put the ho balancer back on they work together to balance the internals of the ho i just went through this whole mess when i put a 88 ho in my 77 f 150 4x4 alot of headaches but well worth it in the end
I am doing some looking but TCI make several flex plates that would work, now I must find out what size counter balance the 86 HO engine came with and the 77 torque converter bolt spacing is 10.5 or 11.5, the original 77 flex plate dia and tooth count.
for 86 if i remember right is the change over year so some have the small counter 28oz i think or the big 50 oz iook at the flex you got and see how big the weight is sometimes its stamped on the weight the trucks take the big flexplate like 14.5 in across and i beleave 164 teeth the cars take a smaller 154 tooth and 12.5 in across
