1998 Expedition rear window wiper
Rear window wiper is not working on a 1998 Expo. When wiper stalk is turned to activate rear wiper, a clicking noise is heard at the power distribution box under the hood on the driver side. I checked the fuses under the dash and at the larger of the two power distribution boxes. Fuese are fine. It was suggested that a relay in the power distribution box may be bad. ANy idea as to which relay control the rear wiper?

I have a 98 also and mine was not working also, so I pulled the rear motor out and called around and everyone had to order it (3-5 days) so I put it back in. Just wiggled it around a little bit and turned the switch and it started working again. Maybe give the wiper arm a little help in the down position and see if it kicks on?

Remove the two screws from the tailgate handle and with the dor in the open position carefully pull down the plastic cover from the inside of the door. It is held to the rear door with plastic screws that pop in and out. Just keep even pressure on them and pull down and they will pop out nice and easy. When all are out the cover will lift right off, exposing a plastic liner over metal and there is the wiper motor. You should be able to have the rear wiper motor out in around 10 minutes. The motor is held in with 3 10mm bolts.

Mine's been in and out of commission too...presently OUT of commission. I have not screwed with it, last time it just started working with no intervention. I may pull the motor and just give it a bit of "mechanical agitation". If that don't work maybe I'll try fondling it?

I guess I've been lucky in the fact that mine hasn't had that problem yet. Do you guys always use the wiper when it's raining out? or just occasionally to clean it up? I hardly use mine, so I'm wondering if these wiper motors aren't meant for constant use?
Good Luck!

My exp. is on its third rear wiper motor. I recently took it in because the wiper arm does not always return to the park position and the wiper motor was less than a year old. The dealer tech tried it and it worked every time, but he sprayed the washer fluid on the rear glass. What I have observed since then is that when the block that lifts the wiper arm away from the glass is dry, the wiper arm hangs up on the block. When wet it works fine.
