I see that Mid Fifty has a seat belt "kit" that is described as being everything I would need to get seat belts in my '53 F100. I don't see anything similar offered by the other vendors (Mac's & LMC, to name two.) Does anyone have direct experience with this Mid Fifty setup? It costs about $250. Does that seem reasonable? Am I better off just buying the interior cab corner plates for the shoulder mount belts and putting together all the rest from salvaged belts and retractors? Any comments and/or observations would be appreciated.
You don't know how long the junk yard belts have sat in the weather. What is you life worth. I did not go the junk yard route. They might look good but you never know. I sell fall protection belts and they are a one time use no matter how good they look.
i normally just buy a pair of retractable seatbelt with long web stalk, and the middle gets a lap belt using same principle , i then use 4" x 4" 1/8" plates with 7/16 nf nuts welded to the plate, then plug weld to the floor.
i would roll a piece of 3/16 plate to match the roll of the corner at the top of the rear window to door area, then weld nut and plug weld.
this is easy, safe and legal in Australia, so it should work in the states no problem
I agree, use new belts. I got Juliano's which meet new car specs, welded in 3/16 plate between the door posts and the window frame and used plates below the floor board.
I personally don't see any problem with the military seat belts from what's shown in the pictures other than they only come in black. I'd but a pair if it weren't for that.
I have a set from my 1969 Mustang I might use if they fit ok. The bench seat height might be a limiting factor for me. I was also looking into the HUMVEE surplus.
I have not used the Surplus belts but got he link from a thread on this forum about 4 or 5 months ago. Two or three guys had purchased them and put them in. They said they worked very well and seemed very good quality. If they are ok in a military war machine I think they would be ok in our pampered old trucks. You may be able to do a search for the thread. Have fun.
installed mine today and they are too short... these were for a hummer and the original retractable mount was on a raised portion of the cab (fender well I think) so you loose a foot of cable. I'm gonna use an extender on the other end and add 12-14" to the length that way..
