I've gone through 3 cables in 2 years! The one that engages the lift bed on my 1986 F-350. The new ones are JUNK! The last one went south on me a couple of weeks ago, which meant that I had to crawl around under said truck to operate the lift. This became QUITE bothersome to my bad back, and knees. Today was the last straw -
I FINALLY "Kicked The Cable"!
After dumping a load of wood chips at a neighbor's house, he mentioned that I should have"something better" to operated the thing.
"Funny you should ask....", I said.
We both set to work on it, and within an hour and a half had this installed:
Lever inside the cab:
Underside of the floor board. Kinda hard to see, but the rod hooks into the bottom of the lever from the first photo.
This is the pump end of the rod.
It sure works a LOT better than the old system! I still have the other cable to engage the PTO, but it operates smoothly (so far). All-in-all, I'm pretty happy with it.
