97 Explorer 5.0L Transmission problem
The car left her stranded about a month ago with transmission problems. Closer to home this time. I got the car to a real transmission shop. They rebuilt the transmission but found another problem.
When the previous transmission was installed they used he wrong wiring harness. I guess it came on the junk yard transmission. Anyway they tell me with this harness the transmission isn't recognizing what gear the shifter is set to. They think this is what caused the tranny to go out again.
Ford doesn't have and can't get this harness and we have had no luck with the local junk yards.
I am looking for a source for replacement wiring harness. If that fails maybe I can find a wiring diagram on what the harness is supposed to be like and try to modify the current harness so that it works.
Also we tried replacing the computer but it didn't work. The also tried a harness from a different explorer. The transmission worked but the engine only fired on 6 cylinders instead of 8 because the harness came from a 6 cylinder explorer.
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm new to the explorer forum, I used to spend a lot of time in the Aerostar forum. Thanks. in advance.
