EOT VS ECT on cold soak

I have been noticing my ECT and IAT2 temps are 2.8 degrees lower than what the EOT sensor says on a cold soak. Thinking the EOT sensor was faulty I replaced it with a new Motorcraft one. After cold soak last night I turned on the key and found the same 2.8 degree difference. I have not started the engine with the new sensor but I am wondering why the SGII is seeing the difference?

EOT and ECT sensors are exactly the same sensor, swap them if you think they are faulty and if the issue follows, then the sensor is the issue. IAT2 is intake temp and 2.8 isn't that much considering one measures air intake temp and one measures water temp. Cold soak for 2.8 difference, OK.

I don't think that's an issue, just remember that when you compare the spread fully warmed up when checking oil cooler health, not a big deal IMO.

I agree with Watson. 2.8 degrees only comes to a .014% error at 200 degrees. Tell me what in yourlife has a closer per centage of acccuracy? lol

The sensors/gauges can exhibit odd behavior. My Scan Gauge II ECT will jump from 188 to 190 and then back to 188, never will it display 189. They are cheap inexpensive and some what inexact sensors.

You forgot to multiply by 100 after dividing 2.8/200... it's 1.4%, not .014%.

I believe the coolant side only registers every 2 degrees while the oil side does every degree. I could be wrong though...

Is the oil temp 2.8 degrees hotter or cooler?

From my experience it appears Scangauge uses increments of two for ect up to 190* and then one there after. Cold soak numbers will rarely be the exact same....oil is thicker than water so heat disperses slower than from water and on the other end of the spectrum oil also soaks heat slower. My point being that with the ambient temps ranging from cool to hot and back one is always a little ahead of the other. for a true cold soak the ambient would have to be constant over a long period and that never happens. Just an observation on my part.

The oil temperature is reading 2.8 degrees hotter. If the difference is engine cold that is not a big deal, my concern is that it is accurate with the engine fully warm. Also, the TFT reading is the same as the IAT2 and ECT temps when cold.

Reason I asked is that the cold soak period is longer for me than 8 hours. It usually takes 12 or more to get the oil temp completely down to ambient.
