1993 F-150 Pickup straight drive - had the u-joints replaced and now there is a nasty vibration when you reach speeds above 30mph. What can be the culprit? Did not have this vibration prior to replacement of the u-joints they where just squeaking.
Did the shop remove/install the driveshaft? I assume they did, and they should have taken it for a spin.
Is it a constant, whether you are on the throttle or just coasting?
I have a feeling that they got the slip yoke turned 180* or the other end. This is just a guess, but something must have been turned for it to start vibrating.
How many possibilities is there in putting the drive shaf back on.
I know it can only be rotated 180 degrees, but can the fornt or back yoke be rotated 180 and give more possibilities?
It is a two-piece drive shaft - I have a long bed pick-up
I took the truck back today and they still are searching for what is causing the vibration. I had them rotate the drive shaft - did not change the vibration. Another question I have is - is it possible that the drive shaft front and back could have been reversed and would that be cause?
No, one is shorter than the other. But with a two piece driveshaft there are many combinations for putting it back together. I hope they marked it before they took it apart. It is def. a driveshaft vibration so they better not be looking anywhere else. If they can't get it back the way it was (because they didn't mark it) then make them re-balance the driveshaft since they didn't put it back together right. Sometimes, if you put the shaft back together right, it will have vibration because of the U-joints not being what originally was in there when it was balanced. Worst comes to worse you make them re-balance the shaft.
!993 Ford F-150 straight six manual transmission long bed.
How do you determine the center support bearing is bad or not?
I have an associated problem - read my post on ujoints and vibration.

The rubber in the carrier bearing(another name for it) is separated from the metal bearing or there is play greater than 1/4" or so when you push on the shaft around it. You'll know. I had mine replaced by a shop for $65 including labor, but I took the shaft to them. If the rubber looks old and dry, replace it.
can you wiggle your driveshaft in the bearing around?? does the rubber support look like it is bad?? is there a bunch of "dry" looking grease thrown from the bearing?? are the seals on the bearing ripped or torn?? many way's to tell if it is bad
not a safe way but you could support the back of the truck with jack stands, whhel chocks on the front tires start it up and put it in gear and watch the driveshaft spin, may show you a little more on the bearing being good or bad
