2003 F250 V10 Value ???s

Hello all,

I am currently looking into buying an F250 to use for towing my boat (4000+ lbs) as well as use for family camping trips and beach adventures.

I previously had a 2005 F250 with the 6.0 and am hesitant to go back to the diesel as some of the mods to make them truly reliable and efficient aren't allowable where I live (just moved to CA from NM.)

So I am in the market to pick up another 3/4 ton and came across a 2003 F250 with the V10 and 168k miles. According to the owner the interior and exterior are 9/10 and mechanics are 10/10 (he has all maintenance records). He also said all of the miles are hwy miles as he uses it for weekend trips to the ocean. Asking price is $12,999, which seems on the high side. What do the experts think?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

D

Regular, Super or Crew Cab? XL, XLT or Lariat? 2 or 4-wheel drive?

NICE truck, BUT: Kelley Blue Book, in flawless "excellent" condition, says $9700-$9800 when buying from a private owner. I'd have a tough time paying $13000 for a 12 year-old truck with that many miles, and no bank around here would finance it for that price.

Thanks for the info/advice Mark. I was wondering if I was missing something that would make it worth the asking price....I was thinking it was worth closer to 9k.

Like I said, it appears to be a nice, well-cared-for truck; nicely accessorized. But the age and mileage have to be taken into account when talking value. Are there any others like it for sale in your area, perhaps a year (or two or three) newer, with less miles? What are the asking prices on those? You'll never know what something is really worth unless you have something else to compare it to.
