New fuel tank

On my 04 Navigator I had a full tank of gas and parked on my driveway with the nose down. After my wife left in the morning I noticed a wet spot in the middle of where the vehicle was. It turned out to be gas. I took it to my father-in-laws who owns a salvage yard to put on a lift. Took off the tank and there are two vapor check valves that each have a crack under where the hose connects to. So I called two different Ford dealers and the both said I would have to buy a new tank ($1300) because you cannot just buy a new valve. So my father-in-law has an 03 Expedition tank available and swapped out into my Navigator. Is there not anyway to change out just the part and not be forced to buy a new tank?

Do you think I am stuck buying a new tank if this situation happens again? I will not be happy.

When I dropped the tank to replace a fuel pump, I had cracks in the tank at two of those valve openings. I cleaned the tank, applied JB Weld, cleaned up the excess, and installed the pump and tank.

Repairing the cracks fixed my EVAP monitoring system too as it would never set regardless of the drive cycles.

That's the fuel tank part number, I meant a part number off the vapor valves.

Sorry, two different Ford dealerships said there is no part number for that.

Is that plastic JB Weld you used?

I used regular JB Weld KwikWeld, sets in about 6 minutes.

You have an air leak in the tank or one of the hoses going to it.

Maybe I didn't put one of the hoses on good since I didn't get an error before the switch. But is there anyway to check for a leaking tank?
