Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1992 Diesel instrument cluster with tach? I found one for a gas model, is it the same pin numbers and wire colors?
It is close but the differences are in the tachometer, CEL, fuel reset and the low vacuum warning layout.
In the Ford wiring diagram book (EV&TS manual) they use the same diagram with notes for gas & diesel. So if that is what you are looking at then yes it is the same diagram.
Everything seems to work OK except for the fuel gauge. It stays at 5/8 full or between 1/2 and 3/4 full. Even filled up today (21 gal) and the gauge didn't move. Am I missing a wire or is the gauge bad?
I would say bad gauge or hung sender arm.
Unplug and and then short gauge wire to ground with the key on.
If gauge goes to passed full and then goes to passed empty the gauge is good.
If the gauge does not move the gauge is bad.
Any chance I swapped a wire in the wrong position when I put the cluster in the 96 van? What is wire "921 Fuel Rest Indicator Input" ? I don't think I have that.

First I have heard of a 96 van???

Where do you see a 921 wire?
A 921 wire was used in the 1992 Gas cluster for the Inertia switch tripped indicator lamp for electric fuel pumps.
1992 Diesel trucks did not have electric fuel pumps.
Are you trying to put a 1992 Gas cluster into a 1996 Diesel Van?
I guess I need to give some background. I am swapping a Cummins diesel into my 1996 E-Super Duty that currently has a 460 in it. I have an instrument cluster that I took out of a 1992 F350 diesel with a tach that I want to use in the bus. Swapped the wiring in the connectors so that it would correspond with the 1992 wiring, also clipped the jumper so that I could use the "Anti Slosh Board" and everything seems to work except for the fuel gauge. The reason I asked about the 921 wire is that it is listed on the wiring connector diagram, but is not there. I posted this in the van section also and thought I could get more info from you guys.
Thanks. It looks like the problem is with the anti slosh module circuit. I removed the module and reconnected the printed circuit loop that I originally cut. Now the fuel gauge looks like it reads correctly. Will probably make the needle move around a lot, but I guess I can live with that since I can't figure out how to fix it.
