got a quick question, i have the 1aauto 2008+ mirrors on my truck. How do you take the mirrors apart? When it rains or i wash the truck the bottom of the mirror fills up with water, and it slowly drips all over my doors when i drive the truck and when i open or shut the doors the water sloshes around and again gets all over my door. I want to remove the bottom piece (if it comes off) and drill two drain holes, i would do it on the mirror still but im afraid id hit the wires or something for the heated/power functions
Not had one apart. But look behind the mirror with a flashlight
to see if you can see the clips that hold the cover on. I have a photo
of how the 2006 clips work and are hidden if that would help give
you some ideas.
Here are the table on the back cover.
I hope that this gives you an idea on where your might be hiding.
I just used a small slat blade screwdriver and a small phillips to push
each one as I lifted the clip up.
the new 08+ mirrors dont have a big cap like the 07- mirrors. So i just said screw it and masking taped the bottom, made some measurements and crossed my fingers and drilled the holes. Here's some eye **** LOL
kids got me a small Craftsman kit that has collars for a drill bit stop, figured lets see if they work
set it very short
holes are 1" back from cover lip, and 8" 10" 13" from door side measured out
finished product, used 3/32 bit for starts and if it doesn't drain well or gets clogged up ill go bigger
the top cap comes off and so does the side marker light cover. there are screws behind the glass but im not busting the glass so this was the best option. and yes i took a counter sink bit and twisted it by hand once or twice to make the holes perfectly smooth, they werent sharp or jagged before though (used a brand new bit)
