underpowered towing issue.
My 1989 F250 has a 460 with about 18,000 miles on it and also a newly built automatic C6 trans built heavy duty for towing. I am towing a Thor Vortex toy hauler that is a w217wb model. it is way under the tow specs of my truck approximate 6725 loaded with spec of 10,600. I can not maintain 65 mph and truck is floored, and engine rpm showed 2900 what gives? I have been guessing but will not just throw parts at it. in need of suggestions.

The cam you put in is decent. I hope you used a straight up timing gear set. This sounds like you are running with the cam retarded. Check you timing, check your fuel pressure, check you exhaust back pressure any of these having an issue can keep it from winding up under load. When you check your timing make sure and pull the spout connector If you don't then you won't see the real base timing and thats what you need to know it should be 10 degrees.

I am using the stock gear set, and did set the timing @10 degrees with the spout connector out and have checked it again. I have had issues with the ethanol gas because of the vacuum valve that switches tanks so I use non ethanol only. I will double check fuel pressure tomorrow,unless newer fuel filter has issues should all be good. exhaust system is needing replaced, is a cat system but in-op. rest of emissions is coming off.
