Coolant flow question

Well I was fueling the truck today and I opened to hood to check it out and noticed that there was no pressure in the cooling system by squeezing the upper hose. I did have a spare degas bottle cap and removed the old one slowly and replaced. I have been driving over 30 minutes and it is close to 100 degrees.

I then drove on down the road, the truck is not getting hot. I stopped to look at some running boards and the truck was running and then I came home and still no pressure, the truck is still running, I removed the cap and no pressure, I then removed the small hose going to the top of the degas tank and no coolant came out. I turned the truck off and disconnected the upper hose and some coolant did come out.

Is this normal? The truck runs just fine, just has me worried.

One note: I just bought the truck and the previous owner recently replaced the water pump, T-stat, hoses, etc. All parts were bought at O'Reilly. So everything looks good.

These trucks have a helluva cooling system, I wouldn't worry one bit about what you are saying. As long as you are not losing any coolant or overheating I'd say keep rolling on.

Thanks, I was going to order the Dieselsite Coolant filter kit and wanted to make sure I did not have other issues.

I removed my fan and shroud earlier this year, and while i don't drive the truck a lot it has not overheated or even come close.

I avoid driving in rush hr traffic to avoid wrecks which can clog up the hwy and such. If i were to get in a place where i was not moving I would just roll down window and shut off motor till we started moving, or just pull of to side and wait a bit till traffic starts moving again. so far i have not had a problem.

I do have two elec fans to install on radiator to help cool water and run when AC is on but going to wait till i do the IH water pump mod replacement.

makes it a bit of a pain as i had installed shut off switch for the AC compressor to help with power so i have to shut it off when at a stop light for more than like 14 seconds. With a cutoff of the compressor vs turning the control **** off it still blow cool air without opening the damper to allow the hot outside air in cabin. When we get moving i flip the compressor back on and it starts cooling again.

the cooling system are quite large and ready for most any thing.

ps with fan removed my around town MPG is 18.9 to 19.1 and on the road it goes up to 22 -23 mpg.
