if it looks like something is missing. it's not. the part i think you are in reference to is a inlet filter for the air tube on the pollution controls.

The previous reply is correct, it's a muffler for the air injection system. Nothing missing.

Thanks guys for the heads up. I was able to track down the answer because I didn't receive any notification of a response here. I had been looking and looking and was having trouble finding a definitive answer, but you guys nailed it down for me. Thank you very much. It just looks so unfinished to me. Truck failed emissions, so I was just trying to track down any obvious culprits.
