Well, the E350 V10 Chateau did fantastic taking the family from NW Indiana to Pigeon Forge, then to Cherokee NC and back home. One issue we had was with properly storaging bags, etc in the back of the van along with the dog. Family takes too much stuff on every vacation!
Has anyone made a custom storage platform for their van? If so can you share pics? The Chateu has 2 captain's chairs in the 2nd row and the 3rd row is a bench. I would like to come up with something where we can put some bags on the floor then setup a corner area for the dog, and allow for other bags to be stored on this top layer. I would need to come up with something for the driver's side rear to allow the heater to still flow and direct some of that air upwards.
We packed in ~120 qt plastic stacking bins when 7 of us trekked from San Jose to Vancouver. We stayed with friends who didn't mind stacks of bins in their garage. It might be awkward lugging bins to hotel rooms and you'll need a way to keep the bins from toppling on Fido
My Dad built something like this way back when I was a kid, except the upper portion was a bed. Only drawback to this was my kid brother fell out of the bed twice while we were packing for vacation, on two separate trips. That fall to the pavement the first time didn't teach him anything, LOL
2000 E- 150 Chateau. Custom cabinet on passenger side. Vertical 1x2 boards behind the plastic trim. I use this as bed and to pile up cargo, suit cases, etc. more than six years and not a single issue.
Back seat replaced with a forward fold-able seat from a Tahoe.
Towed one standard E250 with another, receiver hitch with bumper mounted tow bar pulling the second E250. Literally twice the van with only half the power and most importantly only HALF the brakes! Holy cripes talk about a tense 435 mile trip.
