Storis had an amazing career. She had the same hull design of a 180' buoy tender. She had a round bottom like a breaker since she technically was one and she'd take those long slow wallowing roles as such.
Her fate was ill matched to her illustrious history.
My first ship was a 180, and she sure did roll with that round bottom. In my opinion, the 180s are the best class of ship the CG ever owned. They did every mission the CG has and then some. Over 50 years of faithful service and proven performance, they were tough old girls.

The 180's are going to be the next CG history lesson. I'm lovin's this!

Just thought I'd let you know that I ran into someone who sailed on the Storis. I was in a nursing home up in Sacramento to see some patients and when I was leaving I saw a gentleman wearing a Storis ball cap. Mid-60's at least and no doubt visiting. I caught him out in the reception area.
I asked if he was on the Storis and he said yes. He asked me if I knew of the ship and I said yes and had been across her decks in Suisun. He told me a little of her history and I told him what happened. He said she was a great ship and I said more than a great ship she was a notable ship. Had to leave and get back to the Bay Area but he was pleased someone knew the Storis.

Thanks for sharing Mike. Old coasties love to talk about our boats.
