Seriously, though, I never use the Royal Purple engine oil, but I've used Royal Purple in my truck's rear differential and in my car's transaxle. I have no complaints.
i do not use synthetic in anything, in my opinion it is not needed, and unless the engine was designed to use it by the manufacturer, it just leaks out where regular oil will not.
people keep telling me how good it is, but my 88 now has a little over 494,000 miles on it running plain old valvoline 15 40 all fleet oil, so i will stick with that. .
Wanting to buy another 7.3. 01 175k. Immaculate, has never run anything but royal purple. Any bad results from RP out there?
RP won't hurt anything but I wouldn't accept any kind of price premium on the truck just because he always used it. More important is how often he changed it. Does he have maintenance records? Some guys like to run expensive synthetic oil forever without changing it.
It's probably an overall plus because regardless of whether the engine is in better shape due to the oil, the fact that the owner cared enough to run expensive oil probably means he cared about other things on the truck and kept it in good shape.
I've got Royal Purple in my differential too. Ford specifies a synthetic for the diff, but doesn't require it for the engine. So, I use conventional 15w40 Rotella with good results. I don't think I could stand changing the expensive stuff as often as specified by Ford, so I figure I'm ahead of the game.
It's my brothers truck. Being he used to be changed at 7500. It's in perfect shape, never pulled anything . no price premium. Just bb value. Would switching to rotella cause any issues?

Rotella T, in either its synthetic or non-synthetic versions has been designed by Shell for Diesel truck engines. No way is it going to cause any issues.
The only benefit to running synthetic oils like RP is extended oil changes, and most importantly you need to have a bypass filter, and even then it's only to about 7500 mile changes.
And if you run RP in every part of the truck (motor, trans, diffs, t-case) you will see 1 or 2 mpg increase, as I have been told this by many reliable customers.
