While replacing the rubber firewall seal on the steering column, I thought I might as well install the shift arm bushing while the column is out. I bought part number C5TZ-7343-A for this job, and it looks like it should fit, but how the heck are you supposed to install it??? Its an automatic shifter, late 60's early 70's column I guess for the power steering upgrade by the PO.
What is the trick to installing this as there was no previous bushing in here when I got the truck.
I searched, but no tips were found, so I am afraid I have the wrong part now.
I put the bushing in boiling water, then I was able to squeeze it in the shift arm hole. Unfortunately, I had to then redrill the hole for the shift rod as the bushing is defiantly compressed by the size of the shift arm hole.
The brass insert will not go back in the hole unless I drill a much larger hole. At that point I don't know how much rubber will be holding the bushing together.
