summer help for your radiator
Some tips to help improve the efficency of your cooling system in this heat.
Heating and airconditioning people found years ago that cleaning the outer surfaces of the condenser
coils would greatly improve the heat exchange efficency. Once a year just before summer they will wash thru the coils with a coil cleaner soloution. Even if not obstructed by debrie oxidation would build an insulateing layer reduceing the effectiveness of heat exchange.
This applies just as well to radiators. Cleaning the tubes and fins will help a good bit.
While this works better removeing the radiator and being able to wash straight thru the fins and coils/tubes however you can do a passable job with it in place.
Useing a common garden pump sprayer mix a water/cleaner soloution according to the directions plus just a little more water. Spray this on the exsposed surface of the radiator and the a/c condenser.
Let set a few minutes and then was out and thru the surface as best you can with a water hose and short low pressure nozzle.
Removeing the flat plastic cover between the radiator and crossbar you can actually get to the radiator pretty good. Or you can wash straight thru the front grill and condenser. It just takes more time and water.
You will be surprised how well this helps the cooling system.
Use with caution these are acid or caustic based. Health and physical hazard.
Too strong a concentration or if left too long can actually disolve thin aluminum.
