Alright so lately I've been working cosmetically under the hood of my truck (blue 64 f100 swb with a 292 and 3 on the tree) and it's starting to take shape.. My budget is limited so I'm doing the best I can with what I've got. I bought some rattle cans rustoleum engine enamel and desgeased the motor as well as I could. Then I taped everything off and sprayed so it's not perfect but I tried my best, it's the first time I've ever attempted something like this. I've only painted the motor and the rest will be done soon, I'll also be getting a new bigger chrome air cleaner and a chrome breather. Here's a before and after
Hopefully one day I'll get some ceramic or stainless steel headers to get rid of the annoying surface rust like what's on the others
Please excuse the blue tape that I haven't removed just yet
Summit Racing drop base aircleaner SUM-G3000, it comes with a 3in air filter, but I ditch it for a 5 inch Moroso 97330 filter for $23.
Go to Lowes and get a $10 chrome pipe for a sink drain, you will have to cut it to length. Auto Parts for a chrome oil cap, and you have a good start for about $75.
I think I bought the stud kit for the air cleaner at Advance.
That looks much better! What did you use as a degreaser and how well did that work? Obviously well enough. I have to replace the valve cover gaskets on mine and figure I will clean up the mess when I do that. I like the black block.

I used some stuff called "Gunk" and they have a couple different ranges of potency, I got the mid range because mine wasn't to bad. I would rate it about a 7 out of 10 (would be a 8 but there wasn't as much as I would like inside the can). I also used just regular soap and water, Dawn really works best. Don't forget to scrub. Hard. Good luck!
