Here is what I learned, so far. On my particular motor/t-converter:
1. The only access to the nuts is near the oil filter. The starter hole provides no access. Take the oil filter off for even more room with tools. A Dremel does fit...but, you really can't see what you are doing.
2. My nuts take a 14mm socket. I suggest using the best socket available. I am having luck with a 3/8-inch drive, standard depth, 6-point Snap-on.
3. Consider PB Blaster and heat. Take care. Rounded nuts in this location suck.
I will report back with my alternative for the one (so far) rounded nut. Probably will be a Dremel solution.
In the end, I used the good ol' BIG HAMMER THEORY. Which, almost always ends up with something busted.
I was able to get an air die grander in there, with a carbide burr, and no ability to see what I was doing. The TC is out, and needs a new stud welded on, as the stud got considerably altered in the process.
So it goes. I am trying to sell the transmission for 200 bucks...a not-bunged-up TC vs. good-used TC, vs. no TC..... is probably not going to alter how easy the transmission will be to sell..

Roy
At that price I would leave the TC alone. Most people replace it with the transmission. I have a feeling you want have it long

Right: I won't fix it...just pass it on.
I think I have priced both the transmission and motor to move. But, I live way out in the sticks, and sometimes have problems selling stuff due to the drive. So it goes.
why are you removing the trans Roy? was it working ok?
edit.i see your local fore sale ad.i can't pass this up.sending ya a pm. your up in the sticks but i think chip truck can make the drive ok for that price.

Hey,
First, let me say my F350 is more of a project than a truck. I fully understand the 7.3/E4OD is a great combo. But, I bought the truck intending to yank them, doing a frame-off, and bolting in a 6BT and 5-speed.
Makes no more sense than playing golf or watching base ball on TV.
well that was cool.i haven't been out to moosehead lake in a few years.nice drive.didn't plan that one lol but im thinking mt blue park tomorrow for some kayaking and hiking.im doing more in this weekend than iv done in entire previous summers outside of work.
thanks for the spare trans.nice meeting ya and good luck with the project fellow Mainer.
enjoy heaven on earth up there!
on a side note,im glad i didn't bring log truck.with the auto crane,i might have found that spare, priced to sell 7.3l too tempting.
The truth: I didn't care one bit about the TC...it was just something to give away with the transmission. I think back to all the junk I've broken which I did care about.
All exhaust-related bolts, nuts, studs (manifold screws!!!)
Wheel lugs
Brake bleeders!!!!
Water pump attachment screws

So true then we have to spend money to fix the stuff
