18" tires

Guys,

Need some help adn your opinions. Will be putting new rubber on the Harley Davidson 18" Rims I have to go on the EX.

Have a bit of problem though, not sure if I should go with a 275 70 R18
or a 295 60 R18, basically the same OD but the 295 is wider. Is there a benefit in the handling of the Ex in your experience with a wide tire on the 18" dia 8" wide wheel, or is the narrower one fine? There is roughly a 1" difference in width.

Thanks for the help!

My opinion is the 275 tire will handle better as the side wall will be more or less straight. The 295 will bulge and could be less stable with heavy loads. The factory only put a 275 on an 8" wheel for a reason. Although lots have towed with wider than stock tires and lived to tell about it. When I buy times for my HD wheels, I either get 275 or 285 but no wider for me.

I'm happy with my 285/65/18's on my HD wheels. The last trip I did everything handled wonderfully. They are larger in DIA and a touch wider than the stock.

275/70 R18 came on my rims, some have even gone as high as 305.

I have 325/50 R22's. They are very wide.

The only time I notice an issue is on uneven pavement/Ruts- especially deep truck ruts. Handles fine, but you can feel them. Just know it is 'ok' LOL.

If you are running wider and/or larger tires, I'd suggest a better and new steering stabilizer.

I've read a bunch about "bump steering" with weaker or damaged stabilizers

My favorite tire calculator: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc...0r18-305-55r22

Good luck on your choice.

I have had the 295's on my F150 and they were good, however wanted to know what everybodies experience was as I thought the narrower might be a little better for fuel economy. Thanks for all the input!

That's were I'm at. I want 285/75r18 tires. 35" tall but not real wide

Some of the models I'm looking at don't offer that size. So I'm comparing with 295/70 and 305/70 18's.

I want the narrower 285 size for minimizing potential mileage loss and potentially being better in the snow.

I'm shopping for my HD wheels as well.
