9" update
9" update
Sorry to those of you who were following my 9" progress, but life got in the way for me. Any way I spent some time on it over this past weekend and thought Id share my progress. I completed the pinion assembly and got the preload to spec. I replaced the bearings that I had over tightened, used a solid spacer /shims instead of the crush sleeve, I also replaced the old grooved pinion yoke with a new unit, and of course a new oil seal and new pinion nut. Then got the pinion depth set to spec with it in the case. Then after removing the pinion assembly I was able to get the new Trac Loc and ring gear installed in the case , adjusted the carrier bearing preload and maintained it while setting the back lash to .009. That's it for this weekend. Next up will be using marking compound to see how the teeth mesh B4 I button things up and install the seal, in a perfect world it should be good but, this is me we are talking about right?LOL. Do you know after all that fiddling on the pinion set up I actually forgot to put the oil slinger back in B4 the oil seal, and had to do it all over again, I have to laugh at myself sometimes for making such dumb mistakes. Ok Ill save a lot of pics for after but here is a pic as of tonight. None of this would have been possible without the help and patience of my friends here on FTE, so thanks again.
Side business, maybe, as long as he doesn't charge by the hour
Jimmy you will need to carry drive on ramps in the bed of your truck and use them wherever you park so people can look under and look at that beautiful third member you have put together. It is looking great, make sure you have checked backlash in at least three places around the ring gear (I know you have), you don't want a tight spot.
Great job.

Thanks guys for the kind words, I think we all know I'm not the go to guy for anything just a persistent novice determined to learn each project that comes my way. Anyway thank you, and Dave thanks for that advice, Ill check for run out also. One thing for sure is it's always an adventure and enjoyable.
