I purchased my new 14 F150 EB XLT 4WD two weeks ago. Just noticed some rust on components on the undercarriage. Is this typical or should I be concerned? I know I do not like the way it looks, especially considering you can see the rust on the rear axle just by standing behind the truck. My previous truck was a 2012 Tundra and with the exception of typical rust around the brake calipers, it was spotless under neath. I appreciate any advice!
Thanks for the info. I sure wish I would have noticed this before I purchased it...IMO a new $40K+ truck should not have this much rust. I'm feeling a little less excited about the truck now...will pay the dealer a visit tomorrow..
Maybe it's a little early to have that showing, but after six months around here it would look like that anyway. Doubt your dealer will "take care of it", and not sure how they would even if they were willing.
Could have gotten a lot of that being trucked to the dealership if it was pulled in salty weather.
My 2012 doesn't have near that amount of rust on it with over 80,000 miles. If it did I would just spray some East Wood Rust Encapsulator on it & be done with it. That is some pretty heavy steal, so no worries about rusting out, it's just cosmetic.
That's why you don't drive your nice looking Mustang for half the year. Welcome to FTE, welcome to the North East (or similar area), and congrats on the truck!
I'm on vacation right now in IL/MI and this is the first time I've been this far east. I've never seen 5-6 year old car's/truck's with rust! Looking around it's freaking depressing. I don't know how anyone would spend the money on a new car/truck just to know it's going to be destroyed in a few short years. Back home you won't see rust on anything unless it's 25+ years old and even then it's nothing like is seen down here...maybe a tiny bubble or something.
I'm SO glad we don't use salt at home, my mind is literally blown by what I've seen in the last few days.
