Is there a way to test the stock mechanical fuel pump while it is out of the truck, or still in the valley being only connected to the banjo bolt and those 2 fuel lines?
I did buy the o'ring for that and banjo bolt washers when I bought the fuel bowl rebuild kit. (dieselorings.com)
Don't know if pump has ever been replaced cause when we bought it only had 123,000 miles on it.
Prior to dropping the tanks, I used a tire pressure gauge that I used 1-2 times on the shrader port at 1500 rpms gave me a reading of some where between 40-50 psi. (not real accurate I know)
Prior to taking out the fuel bowl, each time I bumped the start a few times the bowl would get fuel to it, but that was only coming from a fuel can right under the drivers door. So it is good in one sense, but that is not to say it will pull from the rear at a greater distance. I did have fuel in the valley, but could not tell where exactly it was coming from cause it was to dirty under there. Fuel was in the last divet of the valley, so I assumed it was from the banjo bolt washers, now I am not real sure.
I had to drop both tanks because of slimy crap plugging the plunger foot thing on the inside of that screen, even stuck in the bypass of the plunger. Crap In the 6 way valve, both sreens on the FPR were nasty. Each time it tried to pull fuel I think it was trying to pull that blob of crap through the SS fuel line and dieing.
It was cacklin' fallin on its face dieing, wouldn't stay idleing, until I started runnin' off the fuel can. then she was running almost like her old self. I think I might of had air in the lines some where, but I didn't run it that long to work them out, just long enough that I could tell the difference in idle/sound and no dieing when the idle dropped from 1800 rpm.
Any thoughts appreciated
( not going to do fuel bowl delete, couldn't get $$ past the hubby for 1, and 2, my personal opinion is ele things can be more of a pain in the a$$)
Not sure how to test the pump itself other than at the FPR with the tire gauge like you did. It is a two stage pump with low pressure filling the bowl, then high pressure to the injectors.

Ok, thanks. I quess I'll just pull it, replace the oring on the shaft and banjo bolt washers and hope for the best.
If I ever pull a pump it gets a new one or efuel. I would bet money it has seen much better days.
You are probably right, after cleaning that nasty valley I don't want to have to do it again any time soon. Off to the parts store in the AM, to bad they weren't 24hr service, I'd be there.
Just have to try and pop out the dent in the midship fuel tank instead of a new one for right now then. previous owner dinged it right where the plunger sat, so it wont sit level at all. Rather drop the tank, then clean the valley again.
