I have a '99 SD and want to change the disc brake pads, the last Ford truck I had, had drift pins in the caliper to remove it and change the pads. On this brake there are 4 bolts backside 2 large appear to attach caliper, 2 smaller with rubber boots. Which ones do I remove to gain access to change the pads, all help appreciated.
Secondly, I want to thank those who covered the speed sensor problems, I had an ABS light on along with my OD light flickering.
I called the local ford dealer, they wanted $ 81.00 per problem on their diag computer to tell me what was wrong, that would have been $ 162.00 plus the labor to change the sensor, altogether over $ 300.00. Thanks to the forum and the advise, I spent
$ 18.33 with tax for a new sensor, took 5 minutes to change and eliminated both problems. I didn't have to take my pants down at the service department. Thanks guys!
No drift pins. Remove the 2 large bolts and the caliper will be in your hands. Eat your Wheaties for breakfast because the bolts are tight..............! I believe the bolts are either 20, 21 or 22 MM, you will need a good long box in wrench to break them loose.
Also if you have to push the piston back, open the bleeder screw, do NOT force the fluid back into the ABS module.
