I currently have my iPhone 6+ running engine link app and have opportunity to get a scan gauge2 for a great deal, my question is there any benefit to use one vs the other? I was not sure if the scan gauge could read more codes or show more pid's or if they both can do the same thing. Also how hard is the scan gauge2 to set up? I do not think it has manual so I will have to go online for that.
I use both (phone with torque pro for android)
I use the scangauge daily and use the app when I need to look at everything and do that one a month or so to see how things are doing.
I'm not familiar with Engine Link but if it's similar to DashBoss for iPhone (and I think it is), it does everything ScanGauge does and more. The more part is better code scanning and more gauges on the display at the same time. I have a ScanGauge and I like it a lot but just talking specifications, it's really not as good as any of the phone apps. The thing I like about the ScanGauge is that it's convenient. It powers up with the truck and shuts down with it, no button pressing required. It accurately displays four gauges at a time and can pull most generic codes and you can change the color of the backlighting. That's about it. Programing isnt a problem, after you've done a couple gauges it goes pretty quick. There are a lot of gauges to choose from, maybe even a couple that aren't available on the phone apps but sort of limited usefulness gauges. If you don't have a problem firing up a phone app every time you get in your truck, you probably won't be impressed with the ScanGauge.
The scan gauge is ready when the truck is.... as mentioned, it's easy and dies require me to set it up every time I get in. I use the phone/pad if it needs more.
I bought a small Samsung pad off eBay and use that for the truck on longer trips. Maybe a junky phone or a cheaper pad you could leave in the truck. Get all the gauges you want without all the set up every time.
I've had my Scan Gauge for many years now , with no Problems. there has been some gauges that wont work , Scan Gauge Co has always replaced them the Values come up every time when needed , I set my gauge on Velcro up on the steering Colom and just to where the shift lever barely touches in Park. I'm happy with Mine
